Cherry, hand-planed top, breadboard ends

Sarah and Mark were rebuilding their farmhouse kitchen and needed a table to anchor it. We picked the cherry together, talked about how big the family was going to get, and I built a piece that could handle a generation of meals.
The top is single-board cherry, hand-planed, with breadboard ends to keep it flat through Vermont winters. Legs are mortise-and-tenon, not glued blocks. The whole thing was designed to be moved when they refinish the floor in twenty years.
It's the centerpiece of every family meal now, according to Sarah.
